Climate Change Cell, Department of Environment, Chandigarh

The Department of Environment (DoE), Chandigarh Administration was established with a primary aim of creating awareness on environment issues among the residents of Chandigarh. This is the nodal department to frame policies/guidelines, issue directions to prohibit the deterioration/degradation of environment, preserve the natural resources in order to maintain ecological balance and also implement the various provisions of Environment Protection Act and rules issued. A 5-year project for the establishment of State Climate Change Centre/Cell in U.T. Chandigarh under National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change was granted by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India to the DoE, Chandigarh. The Climate Change Cell (CCC) aims to support/undertake studies that are critical from the perspective of climate change and the environment of Chandigarh City. Overall, the CCC in the DoE, Chandigarh shall act as a functional knowledge centre, catering to the information and knowledge needs of policymakers, the scientific community, and the general public on climate change issues through tailor-made outreach programmes and initiatives.
